Bees importance

The main meaning of bees is that they are the main pollinators of almost all flowering plants.

Currently, about 150 crops are cultivated, which need to be cross-pollinated by bees. These crops cover more than 20 million hectares, and bees are the main pollinators. An ordinary family of honeybees can make up to 4 million flights per year and fly around 100 flowers during each of them.

Bees are the pollinator of their work increase productivity:

  • buckwheat,
  • sunflower's,
  • Apple fruit up to 50%,
  • watermelons, melons and pumpkins - 2 times or more.

If you use the energy of worker bees correctly, you can increase productivity:

  • peaches, tangerines, oranges, lemons 4 times,
  • cherries and cherries — 7 times,
  • some grape varieties-up to 10 times.

Experiments conducted by the research station of beekeeping showed that pollination with the help of bees on raspberries affects not only the quantity, but also the quality of berries, as well as their size and weight:

  • 100 berries grown without the participation of bees weighed 55 g, and ripe when pollinated by bees — 119 g.
  • Agronomists found that when cross-pollinated by bees, persimmon fruits ripened faster, acquired an orange color, lost their astringency long before the usual ripening period; in addition, the fruit significantly increased the content of vitamin C (ascorbic acid).

EU member States:

  • banned the use in the open air, of three bee-damaging insecticides that are part of the neonicotinoid group.

Meanwhile, the head of the Association of German farmers Joachim Ruckwied (Joachim Ruckwied) said that after the ban of neonicotinoids, agriculture needs alternatives.

  • European experts were supported by the US environmental protection Agency (EPA):

research which has shown that insects of reservoirs are very sensitive to neonicotinoids.

*Neonicotinoid family includes acetamiprid , clothianidin , Imidacloprid , netter , nithiazine , thiacloprid and thiametoxam . Imidacloprid is the most widely used insecticide in the world.

This year, Russia may lose half of its bees. Due to uncontrolled use of pesticides, 20 to 40 percent of bee families die in apiaries every winter.

Even in Europe, bee colonies are shrinking every winter:

  • average of 20 %,
  • in the US - by 30-35 %,
  • in some areas of China, there are no bees left at all.

There were 10 million bee colonies in the USSR. Over the past 25 years, the number of bees has decreased almost tripled.

In the United States and Europe, a steady decline in the number of bee colonies has been observed since the middle of the last century.

Consequence of reduction of bees:

1. Pollination of plants and trees will decrease to 80%.

2. Deficiency of most vegetables, fruits, berries, cereals, nuts.

3. The Damage to the economy due to 153 billion of EURO.

4. Significant reduction of animals.

5. Food crisis.
